While we were in New York, we did a fun deli soup off, featuring soups from The Park Cafe in Manhattan. We were ordering a main course, but both fancied a cup of soup to start. I love the way you can get a small cup of soup to start or accompany a meal in The States, rather than having to order a whole big bowl.
Soup 1: Chicken rice soup
This soup was a revelation. A warming mug of goodness, packed with ingredients and glowing yellow in colour. The broth was rich, almost creamy, with a massive depth of flavour. There were chunks of celery, carrot and big pieces of roast chicken, along with rice. Only one word for this – amazing!

Soup 2: Beef Barley soup
This is a rich and hearty soup. Tasty, piping hot and just the right size for a starter. There’s a hint of tomato, along with big chunks of carrot and celery, plus barley and of course, beef. This is a really good soup, and would be the sort of flavour and goodness to make you feel better if you were ill. Thoroughly recommended.
