Restaurant: Alexander House Hotel, Turners Hill
While @madgie was cycling the Prudential Ride London 100 on Sunday, I took myself off for a spa day at The Alexander House Hotel.
A two-course lunch was included in the price, so I opted for the soup of the day, followed by lamb. You had to order lunch in advance on arrival, so I didn’t know what the soup would be. I was pretty pleased to discover it was homemade tomato. Funnily enough I probably wouldn’t have chosen it but I’m glad I did.
The soup came served in a lovely white bowl and with a choice of breads and butter. I plumped for wholemeal to accompany the soup. The first mouthful was delicious. It was properly yummy. Not too thick, but not watery – a lovely tomato flavour without being overpowering or cloying. It tasted fresh and Summer-y, with peppery little cress on top. There was exactly the right amount so it wasn’t too filling as a starter, but more of something to get your tastebuds tingling.
This soup was a delight, everything a light Summer soup should be.
